The Afternoon Squeeze: Periodic Table of Visualization Methods

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

Just catching up on Seth’s blog where he calls out the Periodic Table of Visualization Methods from visual-literacy.org.
We’re in accord that it’s a twisted alteration on the periodic table – along the likes of the Table of Condiments that Periodically Go Bad.
Still, it’s a great cheat sheet for all sorts of sexy graphs. Plus, [...]

Silver globe

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

Maps can be just as bad as stadium seating charts sporting horrendous uses of color.

Almost as bad as default Excel graphs…

Some people do like to be tasteful, however. Luckily, TopDeq has a stylish replacement for that ugly globe you used to throw around the room in elementary school.

That’s part of the takeaway from an article by HealthScout titled “Popular Brands May Brand the Brain.”
Better-known brands stirred up areas of the brain’s cortex and elsewhere that are “involved in positive emotional processing and associated with self-identification,” Born said. This activity [...]

KFC’s logo redesign

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

Seeing that it’s the day before Thanksgiving, we thought we’d continue with some graphic design fun.

Design Notes: The brief called for “a new look” so we decided to “hip up” the Colonel. We went with emo glasses, some hair dye and trimmed up that goatee into a soul patch. Also, the chin needed some chiseling [...]

Flags redesigned

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

What would it be like if flags were put through the wrangle of a standard corporate graphic design process?

Well, you might experience something like this.

Zune unboxing

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

The boys over at Engadget have a thorough post on the experience of unboxing a spankin’ new Zune.
Some are questioning this:

To set the record straight, “social” can be used as a noun. According to dictionary.com:
–noun
13. a social gathering or party, esp. of or as given by an organized group: a church social.
It reminded us of [...]
