Look out for “thugs” while shopping for PS3

Associated Press ran a story today about the madness associated with crazy consumers trying to get their hands on one of the only 400k or so Playstation 3s that went on sale today.
In Connecticut, the madness crept to dangerous heights:
Two armed thugs tried to rob a line of people waiting for the new Playstation 3 game system to go on sale early Friday and shot a man who refused to give up his money, authorities said.
In other states, customers pushed and shoved their way to the shelves to get at the limited supply, and in Kentucky, four people were grazed by BBs fired from a passing vehicle as they waited for a Best Buy (nyse: BBY – news – people ) store to open.
The two gunman in the northeast Connecticut town of Putnam confronted 15 to 20 people standing outside a Wal-Mart (nyse: WMT – news – people ) store shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money, said State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance.
“One of the patrons resisted. That patron was shot,” Vance said.
“Thugs,” you say? Indeed, a “cruel or vicious ruffian, robber, or murderer.”
Turns out that’s a pretty popular term in news. A quick search in Google News turned up about 2,010 uses in stories. Yahoo! News sported 1,180 or so.

PRpulp’s prediction for the Wii’s release is less thuggish, but drive-bys Mario Kart style could be in the forecast.
